About

I work with clay through hand-building, drawn to the tension between control and unpredictability. The surfaces of my work begin long before the clay itself — with drawing. Through drawing, I translate what I see into something physical, allowing hand, eye and memory to reshape the original source into something more personal.

From there, the process becomes increasingly responsive. Sheets of clay are rolled, printed, layered and stretched — often pushed close to their limits. At this stage, chance plays its part: collapsing walls, shifting surfaces and unexpected marks all contribute to the final form. Rather than correcting these moments, I work with them.

Printing techniques such as intaglio, relief and silkscreen are as important to me as the clay itself. They allow images to be embedded into the surface, building layers of texture and meaning that evolve as the form takes shape.

The finished pieces are not fixed outcomes of a plan, but the result of a sequence of physical decisions — from drawing, to making, to firing. Each holds a record of that journey: structured, but never entirely controlled.

My studio is in the centre of Birmingham, UK.
